A 17-year-old girl was strangulated
to death at Kunrathur and a youth was held for questioning by the police
for his involvement in the murder.
Padmavathi, 17, who had studied
up to X Std, was living with her father Mahalingam at Bharathi Nagar in
Thandalam, Kunrathur. When her sister Saraswati returned home last night
after work, she was shocked to find Padmavathi lying dead with her neck
strangulated.
A TV cable was also found
near the body. It was noticed that two-sovereign jewellery was missing
from the bureau.
Hearing the loud wailing
of Saraswati, the neighbours lodged a complaint at the Kunrathur Police
station.
Assistant Commissioner Mohan
and Inspector Arnold visited the crime scene and sent the body for post
mortem at Kilpauk Medical College.
During the questioning, Saraswati
informed that a youth would come often to talk with her sister. Following
this, the police arrested the youth for an enquiry.
The police are looking into
whether the girl was murdered due to love quarrels or for material gain.
